Tori Kelly is the self-made singer who started her career in 14. She has chosen the long way. She started to record her own singing videos and posted it on YouTube. One of such things led her to the success – a person from the big producers introduced her several years later to Capitol Records after seeing one of her clips on the YouTube. After that, she was gradually rising uphill in her career movement. In a movie named 'Sing' she plays as shy teenage elephant Meena (which is by the way pretty rare name – the only known exemplar of this name we know from Mena Suvari, an actress starred in ‘The American Beauty’).
By this time, Tori Kelly has around 40 professional singles. She is aged only 24 but she looks older, maybe at 35. She is a singer, record producer, songwriter, and actress. The only film in which she starred by the time is ‘Sing’ of 2016. Despite the fact of little presence in the pop show business, she has already managed to end three tours, from 2013 to 2016. She has only one studio album named 'Unbreakable smile' and she has participated in the album of other performers. She sang together with Justin Timberlake, The Black Eyed Peas, Usher, Jamie Foxx, Mary J. Blige, Jessie J, Nicole Scherzinger, Diddy, DJ Khaled, and ASAP Rocky. It all happened in 2016 when she was tied with the obligations to record the song named ‘Where Is The Love’ originally performed by the Black Eyed Peas (which was not included in any album and remained a single).
She has also been singing with the various performers like Pentatonix and Thomas Rhett. Mainly her major collaborations happened in 2015 and in 2016 because this year she reached the success with her new album after she was spotted by a big recording studio.
Tori Kelly has interesting appearance and ancestry because her father has Puerto Rican and Jamaican roots while her mother is of German and Irish ancestry. It all made her growing up in the very non-traditional family if to speak about the preferences in the music. In the early years, she felt she must be a singer. She was influenced largely by Christina Aguilera and various rock musicians.
Geffen Records recording studio what was the organization with which she contracted first but then it seems like they had different opinions about music that had to be made so they had to terminate their contract. The second contract was with Capitol Records when Scooter Brown became her manager.
She also participated in the ‘American Idol’ contest but she didn't gain any special place. After being eliminated from this contest, she has decided to concentrate on her private thoughts and ideas, and that led her to the release of the full-fledged album on the YouTube. She didn't know it yet but it was a huge spring for her, as one of songs of this album allowed the future producer from Capitol Records to spot her.
She has pretty outstanding and extremely powerful voice. It can distinctively be heard in the scene of audition in this animated film when the young elephant gives the extraordinary sounds that amaze the public and turn her into the position of confidence.
