Yet another song from old-gone 1970ies. Alive And Kicking is the band of performers, who are not popular today, after over than 45 years from the issuing of this song. Alive And Kicking is a very positive name. It can be attributed to both – adult people and very young ones, and even not yet born ones. If the latter ones are kicking inside a belly, they are alive. Alive And Kicking is also a very frequent name for lots of events and things in the life. For example, like this were named at least two business enterprises, four films, 8 elements in the world of music – albums, songs and band (this one, with the alternative name Alive 'N Kickin’), in addition to the media – books and a video game.
This song was their biggest breakthrough in the career – it jumped on the 7th place in the Billboard 100, but that is all. Nothing more significant this band did during their active career, which lasted for 2 years only (1970 and 1971). Then, they rearranged the composition of the band and were lasting till the end of 1980ies. The next composition of members was after one of the newly-joined participants died (R. Incorvaia) and the only member of the original band, Pepe Cardona, is in it till today – he is a singer.
You may ask, what do they do if they haven’t issued any significant thing since their very beginning? Here is an answer – they are cheap singers on weddings and other similar ceremonies. So when it is too expensive for people to invite the real musicians, they call Alive And Kicking, who seems like more dead than alive. These guys are so infamous that the leader of the band doesn’t even have a Wiki page.
As for the song, it reached various positions in charts in 1970, the year of origin. The most disgraceful position was in Australia, the 189th place (as of the end of the year), Canada gave it 87th place, the US gave 47th position. As for the weekly charts, Australia was the same rough to it – 23rd, Canada was more polite, giving it the 5th place, and the US – 7th place in the Billboard and the 5th – in the Cash Box top 100.
Since the emergence of it, the singer tried to remake the song, giving it the second life in 1976, 6 years later after the origin, but couldn’t agree that it would be included in any charts, so it numbed. It was released on the vinyl plate with two sides and the second contained even lesser known melody Comin’ Down. Even the owners of the plate rate only the ‘Tighter, Tighter’ but do not rate the second one. Do they know that there is a second side?
Mr. James & B. King were co-writers aiming to input the song in their album, with the same name. Maybe it was so bad that there is no significant data about it, so we consider a single as the only sign of the presence of these guys on the planet Earth.
