Wow, this is definitely about lustful thoughts! Maybe not as much as in 'The Bad Touch' by 'Bloodhound Gang', but it still is. The entire clip is soaked with the anticipation of the great thing that is about to happen. In the end, it partially starts – a man and a woman kiss. Not just with some innocent kiss that is widely promoted by Disney Studio in their children-oriented films or something. It is that kind of kiss when partners approach at the intimate distance where the proximity becomes a little bit dangerous due to their sparkling feelings. When you kiss a person as they did, it is as if you are saying ‘I want to study you, I want to challenge you, I want to know you, I want to feel you,’ and we can only guess what the progression of their deeds will be after the clip ends with the pretty butterfly flying off the screen.
It is one of those songs that has the own cover because it someday became extremely popular. In the case of ‘Butterfly’, this someday was in 1999 – 18 years were gone from that day.

The end-of-year charts were also pretty nice – it has finished in the top 30. In Germany, it was even included in the top hundred of the best songs of the past millennium, landing in 59th position. As for the certification, this song managed to reach several times platinum in Australia, Germany, Norway, and Sweden. It is the gold in Austria, Belgium, Switzerland, and the United States and the only country that considered it silver was the United Kingdom. Unfortunately, the official sales were not more than 1 million exemplars in particular country but the overall sales were totally above 2 million worldwide.
To consider the essence of the lyrics – it is not really far from the essence of the clip – a guy tells that he wants a certain girl, she's the best, fantastic for him, he cannot sleep because of her, he cannot eat and only he thinks about how to get into bed with her. The butterfly that is tattooed on her back, draw his attention. He thinks that she has some hidden messages towards him but there is nothing she hid actually – she really wants the same thing he wants to do with her. The way of putting this desire into lyrics and the way in which the words are spoken on the music gets us to the way that this is one of the most interesting feedings of the lustful desire in the music up to these days.
