To be totally heart-opened to you, we didn’t know that Elvis had a Christmas song before we stumbled upon this song in the soundtrack to film Bad Santa 2. Two-minutes and something of joyful blues with rock-and-roll and peppered atop with the ecstatic voice of Elvis – this is a true delight for the fans of not only Elvis himself but of any gorgeous singing. The name ‘Santa Claus Is Back in Town’ sounds like he is a mobster who is going to make new rules for business in the town, to where he has returned. He compares himself to Santa in this song saying that he isn’t going to return in the classical image of the Santa. No, he will have no sleighs, no sack, and no reindeer. Instead, he’ll be in big Cadillac (the popular model of the car as of the time of creation of this tune). When he comes back, he’ll take her to him and so she has to place the socks over the fireplace. And somehow it seems to us that when he says he’ll be down to her chimney, he actually means something else – as this is vivid parallel to the sweet cave of pleasures on the woman’s body. Knowing Elvis’ image and songs, we could guess that he could easily raise the degree of own popularity inputting such parallel in his creation.
The track was written in 1957 to open the album ‘Elvis' Christmas Album.’ This piece was reissued for numerous times since its origin and the major online critical observers rate it as on average 4.75 out of 5 stars. 1957, 1970, and 1975 – the years of (re)issuing of the album, which was holding for a month as the top-1 in the Billboard. In 14 years from original, Elvis issued the second Christmas album named ‘Elvis Sings the Wonderful World of Christmas,’ which wasn’t that commercially successful as the first one. Though it does not mean the absence of any success – it is rated 3 times platinum, while his first one is rated diamond. The first one mostly comprises of rock and roll songs (amongst 12 pieces), while his second Christmas album is mostly made of pop. Every issuing and reissuing were fantastically forehanded – 3 million sales for the first time, 10 million – for the second time, and 3 more million – in the third. We might guess that if there were the fourth release, targeted at any Christmas it would be sold at least 1 million copies. This is Elvis, after all, one of the most commercially opportune singers even after the death. He is included every year in the lists of the people-singers (living or dead), who earns the most on their music.
Actually, there are other re-releases of the album, including this song too. But they are not embracing the entire song list, as it was originally. They are on the modern physical carriers and are available online as an e-album. There is also 60-disks entire collection of Elvis songs that includes the items from his Christmas issuing.
