I Want It Now/Oompa Loompa Song Lyrics

Veruca Salt:
Gooses! Geeses!
I want my geese to lay gold eggs for Easter

Mr. Salt:
It will, sweetheart

At least a hundred a day

Anything you say

And by the way

Mr. Salt:

I want a feast.

Mr. Salt:
You ate before you came to the factory

I want a bean feast!

Mr. Salt:
Oh, one of those

Cream buns and doughnuts and fruitcake with no nuts
So good you could go nuts

Mr. Salt:
You can have all those things when you get home

No, now!!

I want a ball
I want a party
Pink macaroons and a million balloons
And performing baboons and ...
Give it to me
Rrhh rhhh

I want the world
I want the whole world
I want to lock it all up in my pocket
It's my bar of chocolate
Give it to me

I want today
I want tomorrow
I want to wear 'em like braids in my hair
And I don't want to share 'em

I want a party with room fulls of laughter
Ten thousand tons of ice cream
And if I don't get the things I am after
I'm going to scream!

I want the works
I want the whole works
Presents and prizes and sweets and surprises
Of all shapes and sizes
And now
Don't care how
I want it now
Don't care how
I want it now

Oompa Loompas:
Oompa Loompa doompadee doo
I've got another puzzle for you
Oompa Loompa doompadah dee
If you are wise you will listen to me

Who do you blame when your kid is a brat
Pampered and spoiled like a Siamese cat?
Blaming the kids is a lion of shame
You know exactly who's to blame:
The mother and the father!

Oompa Loompa doompadee dah
If you're not spoiled then you will go far
You will live in happiness too
Like the Oompa Loompa doompadee do

The song "I Want It Now/Oompa Loompa" in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is an amazing exposition of Veruca Salt's greed and entitlement as it plays against the moral lessons of the intellectual Oompa Loompas. Veruca's part of the song shows a girl with aching desire for a lot of things, material possessions or otherwise, to be at her disposal at that very moment. This is the kind of song that emphasizes the weakness of character that one acquires if he is overly greedy: gold geese to a party with pink macaroons is what she demands. This was the imagination of a child's wild fantasy and the implications of unbridled desire. This is greatly contrasted with the Oompa Loompas' song served as a caution against the spoiling of children, where it is the parents—rather than the child—who are blamed for the former's bad behavior.

The 1971 film Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory is considered gleefully mad yet touching and filled with morals. Although the film didn't make as much money as it had cost to produce, its overall appeal began to grow after ample time and eventually led to it being preserved in the United States National Film Registry under the movies that are considered to be "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant." This is mainly because the musical numbers add a certain charm and morale to the plot. The songs were penned by Leslie Bricusse and Anthony Newley with the orchestral score arranged by Walter Scharf.

Roald Dahl wrote the script for this very same film adaptation of the book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, then expressing a dislike for certain adaptations and changes involved in the film direction, including a re-working done by David Seltzer, uncredited. Yet this very movie has indelibly etched a mark of love in audiences' hearts for its whimsical, profound exploration of human virtues and vices, with unforgettable characters brought by a talented cast.
