Fist City Lyrics

Fist City Song Lyrics

You've been making your brags around town
That you've been a-loving my man
But the man I love, when he picks up trash
He puts it in a garbage can
And that's what you look like to me
And what I see is a pity
You'd better close your face and stay out of my way
If you don't wanna go to Fist City

If you don't wanna go to Fist City
You'd better detour around my town
'Cause I'll grab you by the hair of your head
And I'll lift you off of the ground
I'm not a-sayin' my baby is a saint, 'cause he ain't
And that he won't cat around with a kitty
I'm here to tell you, gal, to lay off of my man
If you don't wanna go to Fist City

Come on and tell me what you told my friends
If you think you're brave enough
And I'll show you what a real woman is
Since you think you're hot stuff
You'll bite off more than you can chew
If you get too cute or witty
You better move your feet, if you don't wanna eat
A meal that's called Fist City

If you don't wanna go to Fist City
You'd better detour around my town
'Cause I'll grab you by the hair of your head
And I'll lift you off of the ground
I'm not a-sayin' my baby is a saint, 'cause he ain't
And that he won't cat around with a kitty
I'm here to tell you, gal, to lay off of my man
If you don't wanna go to Fist City

I'm here to tell you, gal, to lay off of my man
If you don't wanna go to Fist City

Song Facts:
"City Fist" is a classic country songs and written, performed also by Loretta Lynn. came out in, 1968. From her own life experiences, particularly the challenges and struggles in her marriage to Doolittle Lynn, she created this tune; The song was actually, in response to a woman who was showing interest in her husband while Lynn was away on tours. Unsurprisingly, "City Fist" quickly became Lynn's second number 1 hit, thus asserting her position in the country music scene at that time! The track was put together with Decca Records, and producement by Owen Bradley. So successful was the song that it spun off an album of the same name thus echoing its triumph.

Message Behind "City Fist".
If you listen close at the core, "City Fist" is a sort of empowering anthem for the females. In response to infidelity, Lynn stands her ground and uses the song to make a clear statement, telling others in no uncertain terms, to back away from her husband. Even though the song has confrontational lyrics that seem violent, it's also seen as a metaphorical representation of standing up for oneself and their relationship. These writings were drawn from Lynn's well of emotion, reflecting the ups and downs of her own life and her fierce loyalty to her marriage, regardless of its shortcomings.

Beyond making it to the spot as a hit single, the track snowballed into forming a crucial piece of the bigger narrative within country music; questioning societal norms and the double standards prevalent. Lynn, much like Kitty Wells at the time gave voice to the issues and the collective women's disgruntlement through her songs, making "City Fist" stand out in the genre. The track's evergreen appeal can be traced back to Lynn's unyielding attitude and her adeptness at expressing a form of defiance that struck a chord with the audience, particularly women who had similar experiences in their lives.

Although "City Fist" is admired for its daringness, it is held high for contributing to discussing gender equality and the anticipations heaped onto women. In 1968, a year marked with social movements Lynn put forth her form of protest through her music; challenging the status quo and supporting the rights of a woman to battle for her relationship and her dignity.
