Midnight Decisions

by Sia

Do you remember as the entire world was singing ‘Chandelier’? Of course, you should! Having risen only 2 years ago, it has more than 1 435 000 000 views on YouTube. Well, it is still far from ‘Gangnam Style’ with its 2 669 000 000 views, but it is already fantastically impressive. Could you consider before the emergence of such a kewl thing as YouTube that it is possible at all to watch some clip more than 2.6 billion or even 1 billion times? From the other hand, if the penetration of the mobile phones and personal PCs, tablets, fablets, and laptops would be higher than now, things could be even more interesting. According to the existing data, the world hosts 7.2 electronic devices with active SIM cards, which is around 0.1 million above the total quantity of the living people on Earth! If to add here the data about every other device, you will receive even more. Besides that, devices are multiplying 5 times faster than people do! So, there is at least 1 device per 1 person if speaking globally, but around 50% of the people on the planet don’t have it yet at all (especially in India and African-based countries like Zimbabwe or Uganda) – as they are from the third-graded regions. It means that every third SIM-device in the world has seen ‘Gangnam Style’ and every 6th – ‘Chandelier’. This is much lesser applicable to the current song that we consider here – ‘Midnight Decisions.’ The clip has been watched only by 820 thousand people, which is 0.011% of the total SIM-devices penetration and even lower if speaking about the entire devices cloud on Earth. As for the video, it hasn’t appeared yet. There is a steady picture, where there is a visibly grown-up girl, the same one who was in already several times mentioned ‘Chandelier.’ We hope in several weeks or months from now, she will delightfully dance too in the next clip, embracing this song. As for the style, it was made in the Electropop, which gains a lot of popularity recently, especially when the Australian Sia ( Sia Kate Isobelle Furler) ‘came to music town,’ we’d say. In her mega-successful musical way, she collaborated with top singers like David Guetta (on ‘Titanium’), Rihanna (on ‘Diamonds’), and Flo Rida (on ‘Wild Ones’). Sia is the object of many accolades, as well as her successful young talented dancer of many clips, Madison Nicole Ziegler, who is only 15 now, but already managed to provide herself a tremendous career. We have absolutely no doubts that she is going to be the main star of at least one or two clips from this new album, as the broad public has already stuck with this girl and will wonder, where did she go, if there will be no more her. In addition to the clipping career, she stars in several movies (since 2015), TV (since 2010), she has 5 major wins in the dance world and 5 more nominations to be named the best. This girl for some time was the hallmark of Sia herself and people were really interested why she hid her face behind a little girl – is she ugly or what? No, she is pretty good-looking, above the average, as for us, and she loves the hairdressing style with this fanciful form, inclined to her dancers, too. Maybe she isn’t iconic in this essence, but some women started wearing such a hairstyle. Freaky? No, it’s just fashion. This particular song is tranquil and low-paced but there is her velvety voice – we literally drown in it but when we resurface again, we hear the deep pain in this husky low voice that lures us and envelops as if it is the real night though it could be the sunny day. This song, first of all, is for the heart-broken people, who are also admirers of everything smoothly good, like this song. You can repeatedly listen to it, endlessly falling in love with it, picturing the shaded silhouettes of the rainy streets around you, when you have no other point than to wonder around the city, soaking wet and feeling yourself broken hearted or broken by the circumstances of life. The midnight decisions in this song mean the breaking up, which she and her partner wrongfully decided. Now she is in tears and he doesn’t even call her. She can’t call him as she is too proud and she isn’t capable of turning off the phone, as she expects he could call her, telling he was wrong. But as long as this time hasn’t arrived yet, she is as if a frightened little lump in her mind; she regrets her midnight decision and there is so much pain to feel ahead and there is so much warmth she didn’t give her partner that it becomes scary. She turns to her old friend, who is, apparently, nearby to cheer her up, to dunk her head, and to soothe her soul. She tells a friend her ex was the entire world for her, but now he is gone. She tries to keep her voice down from screaming loud to let the feelings go, but this inner world eventually turns into this incredibly beautiful song. She sits in the hotel room. It is splendid, but obviously not enough for her, as currently, she lost the point of living, feeling as if she is falling in the rabbit hole, and there is no one around to dry her tears and to pull her out of this falling. The pain, she says, is much too big for her fragility. She isn’t sustaining it anymore and bawling with her supporting friend nearby. In the end, we are not sure is she starts to hallucinate but she sees his beloved, who came to her and is calling her. She is sure in that but we are sure that this is more her desire than the real thing in life. ‘This Is Acting’ is already the seventh studio album. The peculiarity of the most part of songs is the fact that Sia did them for the other singers as the songwriter to be included in their albums. Some of her jobs were rightful and entered the collections, while these items here were abandoned. So she grabbed them all in the pile and composed a new album. Kendrick Lamar is a vocal member of ‘Cheap Thrills’, another song of the collection (he recently performed with Maroon 5 in their ‘Don’t Wanna Know’ song). September 2016 was the start of the tour supporting this album, which was at the time sold with more than 80 thousand copies, making it Gold in Australia and surely it will soon be the holder of the platinum status after the tour ends. Australia along with some other countries marks the album Gold (Canada, the UK, and Denmark), while Poland marked it as Platinum. As for the rankings, the album hit number 1 in following countries: Australia, Norway, and Switzerland. The top-5 list is broader: Argentine, Belgium, Canada, France, Ireland, New Zealand, Scotland, Taiwan, the UK, and the US. One of the most rejected songs in the album is ‘Bird Set Free,’ which was discarded first by the sound producers of Pitch Perfect 2 motion picture, then by Rihanna and further – by Adele. The next tune ‘Reaper’ was written by Sia for Kanye West & Rihanna but it turned out so good that Sia changed her mind to sell it and kept it for her. In addition to as always perfect vocals of the singer, the album has been criticized, too. The lesser amounts of stars from the professional ratings were given by Pitchfork Media (3.4 out of 5), Billboard, The Guardian, Rolling Stone, and Slant Magazine (all – 3 out of 5 stars), and the best marks were given by Idolator, The Independent, and NME (all – 4 out of 5 stars). The New York Times magazine gave the album mixed reviews, saying that Sia is a hit maker, but that made her be trapped in the pitfall, as there were many attempts of her and the producers to boast with perfection, while there is literally too little of perfect vocals, but the aggravation of the superiority takes the first place rather than the real quality of singing. For the different countries and channels, Sia released the same different albums. The general list of tracks consists of a dozen, while two go as a bonus by Target Corporation, Japan has tree extra items, Google – two, Spotify – 1, Deluxe edition includes 7 and Target Deluxe – a whole bunch of eight! Midnight Decisions Song Text

Midnight Decisions by Sia

Remember when we had it all?
Remember when you took my calls?
You were my whole world
You were my whole world
Not a thing said to me
Question now if my heart bleeds
You were my whole world
You were my whole world
I can’t stop watching my phone
Can’t turn it off, it feels wrong
Of me, I can’t, baby
But if you change your mind then I’ll miss it
Now I’m crying alone
Hotel, never much is fine
Not when there’s nobody to catch your tears
I’m here alone
Last night we made some midnight decisions
Did I mess up? Oh God I hope I didn’t
It’s all a blur when we talk through the liquor
I always regret midnight decisions
I always regret midnight decisions
I always regret midnight decisions
I always regret midnight decisions
I always regret midnight decisions
Soothe me now, soothe me, old friend
Warm my body, dunk my head
He was my whole world
He was my whole world
Kill the chattering
Keep the voices from screaming
He was my whole world
He was my whole world
I can’t stop watching my phone
Can’t turn it off, it feels wrong
Of me, I can’t, baby
But if you change your mind then I’ll miss it
Now I’m crying alone
Hotel, never much is fine
Not when there’s nobody to catch your tears
I’m here alone
Last night we made some midnight decisions
Did I mess up? Oh God I hope I didn’t
It’s all a blur when we talk through the liquor
I always regret midnight decisions
I always regret midnight decisions
I always regret midnight decisions
I always regret midnight decisions
I always regret midnight decisions
Pull me out, I wanna fall
Fall into the rabbit hole
Just pull me out, the pain is great
The pain of losin’ you today
I’m in here bawling, just a friend
Never thought we’d meet again
But here you are, one more, again
You’re calling me
You’re calling me
I know
Last night we made some midnight decisions
Did I mess up? Oh God I hope I didn’t
It’s all a blur when we talk through the liquor
I always regret midnight decisions
I always regret midnight decisions
I always regret midnight decisions
I always regret midnight decisions
(I always regret midnight decisions)
