(There's No Place Like) Home for the Holidays

Joy Williams Lyrics

(There's No Place Like) Home for the Holidays Lyrics

(There's No Place Like) Home for the Holidays Song Lyrics

I can feel it in the air
Christmas time is coming
Family and friends have drawn near
Joy to the world
As heaven and nature sing
Hearts are filled with happiness and cheer
Oh, grandma's in the kitchen
The aroma fills each room
Children making angels in the snow
And in the midst of silent night, holy night, and everything
There's one thing that I have come to know

There's no place like home for the holidays
Everybody's singing, yeah, yeah
There's no place like home for the holidays
Everybody's singing, yeah, yeah

Presents underneath the tree
I think there might be one for me
Little children everywhere
They're looking for reindeer in the air
I hear a knocking at the door
'Tis the season more and more

As we celebrate the birthday of our Lord
Oh, grandma's in the kitchen
The aroma fills each room
Children making angels in the snow
In the midst of silent night, holy night, and everything
There's one thing that I have come to know

There's no place like home for the holidays
Everybody's singing, yeah, yeah
There's no place like home for the holidays
Everybody's singing, yeah, yeah

The old ones know, the young ones know, look at all the faces
It's good enough to make you cry
So good to be alive

There's no place like home for the holidays
Everybody's singing, yeah, yeah
There's no place like home for the holidays
Everybody's singing, yeah, yeah

It is a song that is a symbol of Christmas. Despite that it is performed now by Joy Williams, the legacy of it is far wider than just belonging to one person. It originated in 1954 and was originally written by two people – Al Stillman (lyrics) and Robert Allen (music arrangement). Joy Williams is a girl, American singer of 33 y.o. as of the end of 2016. Her version of the song is indicated on the site here, but a link actually goes to the common-known version of this piece. Apart of this young singer performing in folk genres more, this song was covered and sang by simple people for uncountable number of times (at every Christmas for sure) and such singers: Perry Como – the most significant version is his, he recorded even more than once (1954, 1955 and 1959, every time it entered charts); The Carpenters in 1984; Barry Manilow (2002); T-Mobile (2011); Alfonso Gomez-Rejon (2011); Cyndi Lauper & Norah Jones (2011) and others. The song is covered by the protection of copyright, so be prepared that when you cover it somewhere, you shall pay a royalty for its use.
In this collection of warm Christmas songs (which is a soundtrack to a considered movie), this one takes an especial place, as it is loved for more than 6 decades by the people of the US. Several other countries throughout the world are also familiar with this and love to play and to listen to it on the Christmas Eve. The reason for its eternal popularity is the family values that are imposed to this song: the song tells of friends and family that are about to gather in the warm house somewhere closer to the December 25th, to express the joy to the world and to hear the heaven sing inside everyone’s head. The lyrics of the song generally describe the simple happiness of living on the Eve – playing with the snow, singing to Christmas carols, discovering so unexpected and expected at the same time presents under the Christmas tree, children that play around looking for the reindeer around themselves expecting not to miss Santa when he arrives at the sleighs. But the most part that people love is eating delicious food that is cooked in the kitchen, which is maybe the best meal of the year. The holidays are best to be spent at home, according to the authors of this warming-up carol.
Among other Al Stillman’s works, the theatergoers may best know only the brainchildren that were done in the collaboration with George Gershwin, the theater producer, and director. So much more, we may say about Perry Como – this person was a trendy show maker in music, TV, and screen flows of the showbiz. His talent was best blossomed during 1940ies–1970ies. He contributed a lot to the entire epoch and was awarded by Grammy, Emmy, was nominated and received other significant rewards too. The outstanding achievement of this person is as much as three stars on the Walk of Fame in Hollywood because it was that quantity of areas in which he was significant.
