- RADAMES' GARDEN Lyrics

RADAMES walks the Nile. AIDA enters. They stare at each other for a moment
then embrace passionately.

RADAMES
Aida! I thought you were...

AIDA
They came for me. But they took another. I blame myself.

RADAMES
No. I put you in danger. But I swear, it will never happen again. I'm calling
off the wedding. I am going to build you a house on an island at the border
of our countries. And we will sail the Nile.

AIDA
Oh Radames -
(She stops herself short, realizes this foils her father's escape plans.)
No! You can't. You can't call of the wedding!

(AIDA pulls out of RADAMES' arms and steps away.)

RADAMES
Yes, I can. And I will.

AIDA
I love you, Radames. But you must marry the princess tomorrow. Tomorrow. What
you want for us is impossible. They would hunt us down. It is a foolish plan.

RADAMES
I will find a way for us to be together.
